Barnhart Excavating delivered a full‑scope civil package for the Space Center development, supporting the business with critical stormwater upgrades, asphalt removal, grading, and IDP utility improvements. This project required precise coordination inside an active commercial property, where maintaining tenant access, protecting existing utilities, and managing tight work zones were essential to success.
Our team handled extensive asphalt demolition, patchback grading, and installation of new 18" and 24" HDPE storm lines, along with multiple downspout tie‑ins and new storm structures. As the IDP contractor, Barnhart also completed a specialized 18" RCP tie‑in to an existing structure and set a new 4' ID manhole to bring the site’s drainage system up to current standards.
The project presented significant challenges, including unmarked utilities, a buried 12" waterline, rock excavation, winter weather, and a major waterline break inside the building.
Despite weather delays and complex underground conditions, Barnhart Excavating maintained steady progress through proactive planning, accurate grade control, and efficient material handling. The result is a fully upgraded storm system, a cleanly executed asphalt demo, and a site ready for new and continued redevelopment.
This project highlights Barnhart’s ability to manage high‑risk utility work, maintain safety and communication in active commercial environments, and deliver reliable results under challenging conditions.
